What is Brainstorming?

Overview

Brainstorming is a faster group problem-solving method that involves the spontaneous contribution of creative ideas and solutions. Brainstorming is method design teams use to generate ideas to solve clearly defined design problems and is divided into two sub-techniques: Brainwriting and Brainwalking. This technique requires deep, independent discussion in which each member of the group is encouraged to think more and make as many suggestions as possible based on their diverse knowledge.

The brainstorming technique combines a casual, informal approach to problem-solving with lateral thinking. It encourages people to come up with ideas and thoughts that may seem a little crazy at first. Some of these ideas can be formulated as original, creative solutions to a problem, while others can spark even more ideas. It helps to "shock" people out of their normal ways of thinking.

In other words, brainstorming is a situation where a group of people meets to generate new ideas and solutions around a specific area of interest by overcoming obstacles. People are able to think more freely and they suggest new ideas as much as possible.

All ideas are noted down without criticism and ideas are evaluated after a brainstorming session.
