What is Hybrid App?

Overview

Hybrid mobile apps combine native and web technologies. They will often use a combination of technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and will reside inside a native container that allows them to access device capabilities.

A hybrid app is a software application that combines elements of a native app and a web application. Hybrid apps are essentially web apps housed in a native app shell. Once they're downloaded from the App Store and installed locally, Shell is able to connect to all the capabilities that the mobile platform offers through a browser embedded in the app.

Hybrid apps are popular because they allow developers to write code for an app once and can accommodate multiple platforms. Because hybrid apps add an extra layer between the source code and the target platform, they can perform slightly slower than native or web versions of the same app.
