Gamification is a strategic effort to enhance systems, services, organizations, and activities to inspire and engage users to deliver gaming experiences. This is typically accomplished through the application of game-design elements and game principles (dynamics and mechanics) in non-game contexts.
Gamification is part of persuasive system design and is commonly used to improve user engagement, organizational productivity, fluency, learning, crowdsourcing, knowledge retention, employee recruitment and evaluation, ease of use, system usability, physical exercise, public attitudes about alternative energy, and more. Research on gamification shows that gamification has a positive effect on individuals.
