What is Padding?

Overview

Padding is the space between and around individual elements of a page layout; These elements can be copy pieces, images, cards, buttons, icons, etc. When used properly, white space brings visual clarity and balance to a layout.

Padding (also known as white space) is the space between an image or cell content and its outer border. The padding goes completely around the content: on the top, bottom, right and left sides. Padding (in percentages, pixels, points, etc.) is for each side; they don't have to be the same.

Padding is the blank space in web design and elements between the content and the border of the element. As simple as it is, padding is one of the most important things to consider when designing elements. Without it, visitors are likely to be confused or disappointed.
