What is SDK?

Overview

A software development kit (SDK) is a collection of software development tools in a single installable package. They facilitate the building of applications by a compiler, debugger, and sometimes a software framework.

SDKs are usually specific to a hardware platform and operating system combination. to create advanced functionalities in software applications with such as advertisements, push notifications, etc. Many software developers use specific software development kits.

Some SDKs are required to develop platform-specific apps. For example, the development of Android apps on the Java platform requires the Java Development Kit. iOS application(s) require iOS SDK. .NET Framework SDK can be used for the Universal Windows Platform. There are also SDKs that add additional features and can be installed into apps to provide analytics, data about app activity, and monetization options. Some major creators of this type of SDK include Google, Smaato, InMobi, and Facebook.
