What is Typography?
Overview
Typography is the art of arranging letters and text in a way that makes the copy legible, clear, and attractive to the reader. This includes font style, appearance, and structure, each intended to evoke certain emotions and convey a specific message. Typography is more than just choosing beautiful fonts; It is an important component of UI design.
Typography design is a key element of a designer's skill set. The typeface you choose and how it works with your layout, grid, color scheme, and more can make or break a design. The art and technique of arranging type involve much more than just making words legible, the field of typography design is filled with jargon that can sometimes seem arcane to outsiders.
There are three common styles you'll find with many face types: oblique, oblique, and short caps. Small letters are often used for headings or subheadings, so while using one typeface, your typography can be varied. Italic and oblique are often confused or used interchangeably but are two distinct styles.
