What is Ionic?

Overview

Ionic is a framework for developing hybrid apps. Hybrid apps, native apps, and container apps combine the best of both worlds. They are usually loaded from the AppStore and otherwise hardly different from native apps in terms of use. However, they can be developed faster and more cheaply, as the code only has to be written once for multiple platforms.

Ionic is a complete open-source SDK for hybrid mobile app development created in 2013 by Max Lynch, Ben Sperry, and Adam Bradley of the Drifty Company. As the latest release was rebuilt as a set of web components, allowing the user to choose any user interface framework, such as Angular, React, or Vue.js.

The ionic framework allows the use of ionic components without a user interface framework. Ionic provides tools and services to develop hybrid mobile, desktop, and progressive web apps that use web technologies such as CSS, HTML5, and SAS based on modern web development techniques and practices.
