What is Index Page?

Overview

Supplemental navigation allows the user to select a letter of the alphabet and see content available that begins with that letter. The index page is the default page shown on a website if no other page is specified when a visitor requests the site. In other words, the index page is the name used for the homepage of the website.

Indexed pages are pages on a website that a search engine has viewed, analyzed, and added to its database of web pages. Pages are indexed either because the website owner has requested the search engines to index the web pages or through the search of web pages by search engine bots through links to those pages. The index page is the local file or URL that automatically loads when the browser's 'home' button is pressed. The term ‘index page’ also refers to the web server directory index, the front page, or the main web page of a website of company, organization, group, or individual.
