What is Representative Sampling?

Overview

A representative sample is a subset of data, usually from a larger group, that may show similar characteristics. Representative sampling helps you analyze large populations because the data generated are smaller, more manageable versions of a larger group.

A representative sample is essentially a small number of individuals that reflect the characteristics of your target demographic with a high degree of accuracy. This eliminates the need to survey the entire target demographic. Without conducting a sample survey, launching a product could be dangerous because no one will have any idea about the opinion of the target demographic, and how they will receive said changes.

Without representative samples, all the data collected will not accurately reflect how perceptions are on the ground. This is the reason why the selection of samples needs to be done carefully.
