What is Toggle?

Overview

In general computing, a toggle is a switch between one setting and another. The term implies that it is a switch that has only two outcomes: A or B, or on/off.

A toggle is a setting that can be switched between two different tasks or options by performing a single action. It can refer to both software and hardware switching. For example, both the Caps Lock and Num Lock keys on a keyboard have toggles for those specific functions. Those functions are initially turned off, and when one of these keys is pressed once, it turns on the corresponding function, and when it is pressed again, it turns it off.

It's the same concept in software and is clearly evident in the options menu found in most applications. The user can toggle specific menu items on or off via toggle switches.
