What is Color Theory?

Overview

Color theory is the study of how colors make people feel and respond. Colors have different wavelengths of visible light perceived by the human eye. It is an attribute used to describe the wavelengths of light reflected from an object and cones are the color receptors in the eye.

Color is an essential part of human-computer interaction, and like other elements such as typography, designers must choose the design colors carefully. The color scheme is a term that designers use to describe the color combinations used in GUI design. Since there are infinite color combinations out there, it can be hard to decide which color scheme will work best for your product. Color theory is a discipline that helps us choose balanced and effective color combinations.
