What is Summative Testing?

Overview

Summative user testing provides an indirect assessment of the design's usefulness. In this case, a task is given to a group of testers and the usefulness of the design elements is measured on the basis of their performance. Additive user testing is done after the product is launched in the market.

Summative usability testing is a Quality Assurance type of test that is performed later in the product development process. Summative user testing is used to obtain measures to establish usability benchmarks or to compare results with usability requirements. The metrics recorded in additive usability testing reflect what actually happens during the test, not user perceptions or feelings.
