What is Tab?

Overview

A module tab OR ‘Tab’ is a user interface (UI) design pattern where content is separated into separate panes, and each pane can be viewed one at a time. The user requests the display of the content by clicking (or in some instances hovering over) the tab control associated with the content.

The tabbed user interface design pattern draws inspiration from file folders and address books, allowing users to quickly navigate to their target sections. There are two different types of tabs: navigation tabs provide small clickable labels that open content on a new webpage, while module tabs present information on the same page.

Tabs are used to condense related information into categories that can be viewed separately on a single page. This saves screen real estate and aids the digestibility of the displayed content.
