Overview
Triadic color is a color scheme that uses three colors together to create a vibrant and playful feel. Once you understand exactly what the triadic colors are and how to use them, you'll enjoy making them part of your color arsenal when it comes to photography, interior design, painting, or other artwork.
We can use the color wheel to find out what color scheme we hope to work with. It’s easy to identify triadic colors on the color wheel. First, decide what color we want to use. In this example, we'll use orange. Starting with the orange block on your triangular color wheel, we'll create an equilateral triangle to create our color trajectory. As we move along our color wheel, we count three blocks in a clockwise motion. The fourth block from the first one will probably be the correct color, in this example, purple.
The following are perfect examples of all three color combinations:
- Red, yellow, and blue
- Purple, green, and orange
- Blue-violet, red-orange, and yellow-green
- Red-violet, yellow-orange, and blue-green
