What is Grid System?

Overview

In UI design, a grid is a layout constraint that determines where UI elements will sit on the screen or page. Grid systems are organizational tools that help us organize content on the screen. They are made up of vertical and horizontal lines that form columns and gutters.

A system of horizontal and vertical lines provides the underlying structure for page layout and design. The grid system is a useful method to achieve a good page layout, it works as the skeleton of the design.

A grid system in graphic design uses a 2-D or two-dimensional framework to align and layout design elements. Dividing a single design space into grids can help position individual components that can catch the eye, create a user flow and make information and visuals more engaging and accessible to viewers.
