What is Toolbar?

Overview

A toolbar is a graphical control element that provides access to on-screen icons. It often allows quick access to commonly used functions in a program. Some examples of actions that can be performed in the toolbar are opening a file, saving, and changing fonts.

A toolbar is the part of a window, often a bar at the top, that contains buttons that execute commands when you click them. Many applications have toolbars that you can customize so that the commands you use most often are readily available and easily recognized. Many dialog boxes also have toolbars.

Toolbars are usually distinguished from palettes by their integration into the sides of the screen or other windows. The address bar, breadcrumb, ribbon, and taskbar are different examples of toolbar.
