A monochromatic color scheme or a monochromatic color palette consists of a single color that appears in different shades or nuances in terms of saturation and brightness. The color is made lighter or darker than white or black. Thus the nuance can be a lighter shade or a darker shade, but it can also go from clear to cloudy or pastel to strong.

Monochromatic color combinations include different colors of the same color family. "Mono" means single or solitary, and "chromatic" means color variants.
