Flat design provides a great way to increase conversions, improve loading speed, and more. Flat design can be seen as a variant of minimalism that is more sophisticated and versatile. Flat design removed those unsightly design choices, making websites faster, easier to read, and more attractive to users.

While flat designs look great when created within the confines of minimalism, they can also handle a lot of complexity. This is often contrasted with the skeuomorphic style which gives the illusion of three dimensions by imitating real-life features. Its popularity became prominent with the release of Windows 8, Apple's iOS 7, and Google's Material Design, all of which use flat design.
