A user journey map or a customer journey map is a diagram that shows user flow through your site, starting with initial contact or search, and continuing through the process of engagement into long-term loyalty and advocacy.

A user journey map allows you to clearly identify pain points in your UX design that may have escaped you during development and internal testing. It identifies key interactions and touchpoints with your website or mobile app and describes in detail the customer's motivations, goals, and emotions at each stage.

Furthermore, a user journey map should be adopted by the entire product team as a way to triple-check your work and test the usability of the product. Someone else on your team may be able to identify a potential problem area that you were unable to see yourself.
